Greetings YEI members!

A sincere welcome to the new YEI members and to Issue 243 of the fortnightly YEI newsletter!  You are most welcome to catch up with what you’ve missed in the last while, so grab a cup of coffee and then head on over to the YEI newsletter archive, and enjoy!

YEI’s exciting news is that we head into radio in June!  YEI will have a 15-30 minute slot on the Rewind Show, hosted by Martin Nel of Coastal Radio.  It’s going to be fun and we invite you to join us – take a peek here to see how you can listen in and join in at 10am on Monday 3 June!  Look forward to chatting to you on the radio!

Let’s dive into this issue’s highlights

  • We investigate Adult Day Care and how this service can bring you much relief if you have an elderly parent or spouse that needs daily assistance.  We bring you Elizabeth’s story – a story that demonstrates how one’s life can be turned upside down in a heartbeat and how Adult Day Care came to the rescue.  Click here to read about this service and the poignant story.
  • In the last YEI Newsletter, we featured the first of the Gray Divorce articles (click here).  Today, we get the husband’s perspective YEI speaks to a divorcé about his experiences in his marriage breakdown, his divorce and his thoughts on life post-divorce.
  • The SA General Election is but a week away.  This handy guide, compiled by YEI, with the assistance of the DA (Democratic Alliance) gives you all the information you need to know for next Wednesday, 29th May.  Take a look here.
  • How lucky we are to have some awesome African Lodges that offer 60-plussers great specials.  In addition, YEI gives its own account of one of the ultimate bucket list adventures that we have experienced at the unique Kagga Kamma Lodge!
  • YEI’s ever-popular regular column on Pensioner Deals and Discounts gives you HOT-OFF-THE-PRESS new pensioner deals and reminds you of some of our ever-favourites!
  • In case you missed it, don’t forget to listen in to the YEI interview on Cape Talk.  YEI was invited by Consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler on to her show with Pippa Hudson of Cape Talk, the topic being senior discounts.  You can catch up with that very interesting podcast here.  We would love to hear about pensioner discounts that you have encountered in the last few weeks.  Do share them in the comments section below or email us on info@youve-earned-it.co.za

YEI Feedback on Africamps, Wilderness

A YEI member, Su, sent us this feedback after a lovely trip to Africamps Wildnerness

We had a wonderful holiday at Africamps Wilderness!! The accommodation was everything we expected and more, and the owner and staff were really nice people.  The tent is spacious and comfortable, and is well equipped, down to a kitchen scissors 😊  The beds are huge and very comfortable, and the shower big, with good water pressure and permanent hot water!  We were fortunate to have one of the higher-up tents so we got lots of sun – when there was sun 😉 We didn’t have great weather on two days but we were quite snug and warm in our tent.  It’s a very scenic and quick 10 minute drive down to the N2, so it was easy to pop into Wilderness and Sedgefield to visit and for a meal. I’d definitely recommend this camp and I hope to be able to spend some time there again soon.

Take a look at Africamps on the YEI website  here

A YEI member’s view on YEI travel articles – we’d love to hear your views, and your travel stories too!

Hello. I would have found the article on John and Bev highly interesting, had it been a South African retired couple living off our currency. I so enjoy reading about these world travelers but they’re more inclined to be traveling on USD, Pounds, Euro – anything other than the depreciating Rand. I’d love to read about a normal medium income retired couple who have found a way to travel through, even just South Africa / into Africa – although generally anywhere north of the border is USD. I really love your articles on local travel, with the associated discounts, for Over 60’s. Please could you include for PET FRIENDLY discounted local travel. We only travel to pet friendly destinations in South Africa as a) we want the dogs with us and b) it saves us a lot of money in dog sitters. THANK YOU FOR A SUPERB MAGAZINE!   My kind regards, Vivienne.

Help needed by group of 25 pensioners

YEI received this plea of help from a YEI member this last week.  If anyone is able to assist, do contact us on info@youve-earned-it.co.za –
I belong to a group of about 25 pensioners … we are all over the age of 55 and we are in desperate need of sponsorship. We meet every Sunday in a school hall in Vorna Valley, Midrand. Most of us are physically challenged and have limited finances, live off a social grant.  Please help us … we appreciate anything.
SASSA pensioners are in complete distress.  It is impossible to be able to afford to live on the meagre SASSA old age grant.  There is a crisis about to explode.  Should you have any thoughts about how, as a collective, we are able to assist, do let us know.

YEI Guide to the South African 60-plus consumer

Don’t forget to have a read of the fascinating YEI Guide to the SA 60-plus consumer. It makes for very interesting reading with results emanating from YEI members who responded to the YEI Survey Series last year.  Since then, we keep talking about how important SA 60-plussers are, and slowly marketers are starting to take note.  Do share this document far and wide!

A request from the YEI Editor

You know the drill by now!   Engagement, engagement, engagement!  The ticket to YEI’s sustainability.

We ask that you regularly engage with posts on the YEI website, newsletter, and Facebook page.  Please comment, enquire, book, recommend, like, love, share with your friends and family – on all the articles, services, products and offers that YEI clients offer you.

One of the challenges that YEI faces is the Facebook algorithms which only allow a very small proportion of our YEI members to see the content.

So please, please – make it your mission to engage when you see the YEI newsletter or see a Facebook post.  This will support YEI hugely and it takes a moment of your time, it doesn’t cost you anything and it’s quick and simple.  Just one like or love or comment makes a huge difference to YEI. Tag your friends on posts that you think they may enjoy or will interest them.    We know you love it, because you tell us – but you need to show you love it or like it!

Thank you all for your support over the years.  And remember, comment, share, tag, like, love 😊
