Remember “Ye Olde Christmas” – the joy of tradition, festivity and love. Fast forward to post-children years and the run-up to Christmas can be stressful and nightmarish! Let’s look at how we can bring the fun back into Christmas shopping!
Christmas shopping really doesn’t need to be an ordeal. Why did shopping for gifts become stressful and not fun.
One of the reasons, I guess, is because we are all pretty cash-strapped in this economy. Another could be that as we age, many tasks that were considered normal when we were younger, have become a trifle (excuse the pun!) more difficult.
But fear not, YEI members, we really hope to bring that fun and joy back into the “task” of Christmas shopping.
My problem is time. Time goes by so quickly that even the thought of going to the shops, especially at this time of year, has become an issue, and when you get there, you have to spend money – aaaggghhh – if you are going to buy gifts ????
Getting Christmas gift shopping done early is key. One YEI member told us that she starts buying her gifts, one a month, from January to November. Another YEI member saves the Christmas budget she has allocated, on a monthly basis, also from January to November. Another YEI member says that she waits for all the Black Fridays specials, which now appear to take place throughout November. Taking advantage of sales like this, when you are on a limited budget, is really worthwhile.
YEI’s suggestions are:
- Make a list and think carefully about the person you are buying for – their interests, their passions, their hobbies. Taking the time to choose the perfect gift for that loved one in your family speaks volumes and adds that little bit of magic that this festive season is all about.
- Online shopping is wonderful – browse through sites like Takealot with the recipient of your gift in mind.
- Browse through the YEI website and arrange a voucher from one of the many YEI advertisers
- Take a look below at a few suggestions for lovely, meaningful gifts across a range of prices. You might find just the gift for that special spouse, son, daughter, grandchild, family member or friend….
