While great travel deals may appeal to pensioners who have money to burn, most of us struggle to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Travel deals are something we can only dream about, and shows very little knowledge on your part of how your potential audience lives. What we need is special offers in food, clothing, accommodation (not during travel), healthcare, etc. And country wide, not just in the WC. Please see what you can do in that regard. Otherwise make it clear that YEI is only meant for affluent pensioners.

Thank you for taking the time to put pen to paper. The annual Travel themed newsletter (combined with Wills this time, as it is Wills week – free wills for pensioners) is extremely popular with YEI’s 60plus audience – we receive an enormous amount of enquiries for the travel-related offers, savings and benefits. As we know our readership well, many enquiries come from pensioners who save up hard for these treats in life, not just “affluent” pensioners.
I would like to reassure you that YEI is more than totally aware of the plight of pensioners, specifically SASSA pensioners. We completely understand the struggles and have a vast amount of knowledge on how pensioners live and their needs. With the greatest of respect, your thoughts on YEI are completely unjustified and unfounded. The YEI Team has conducted many, many projects over the years, with the benefit of struggling pensioners in mind, that are out of the public eye and behind the scenes. We have approached major corporates regarding projects that we believe would benefit pensioners, the latest being a proposal for much cheaper and free data and fibre, food baskets for pensioners and more. Sadly, most of these proposals do not come to fruition, but we are like “a dog with a bone” and will keep on trying.
Please Harriet, it would be most appreciated if you could contact us directly if you have concerns such as this. Let us reassure you of the projects that we have done and are doing on behalf of pensioners. It saddens us deeply that the pensioners in this country receive a dire pension and are in the situation that they are in. We will continue to serve all of our 60-plus audience irrespective of their income status in the best way that we can.
