Denis Goldberg was one of 10 people who were charged with treason in 1963. He was convicted of Treason, conspiracy and sabotage at the Rivonia Trial held in Pretoria from October 1963 to and June 1964. He was sent to prison and served 22 years behind bars.
He has been battling stage four lung cancer and a heart condition.
“His family and the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust are very sad to announce that Denis Goldberg passed away just before midnight on Wednesday 29 April 2020. His was a life well lived in the struggle for freedom in South Africa. We will miss him,” said the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust.
