A special offer sparked an unexpected adventure
Sometimes the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured in kilometres travelled, but in the courage it takes to begin.
At 61 years old, one YEI member from Ladysmith decided to challenge herself in a way she never had before. Inspired by the accommodation specials available through YEI, she booked a stay at The Nest in KwaZulu-Natal – a destination just 45 minutes from home, but a world away from her comfort zone.
For years, she had only driven locally, relying on her son whenever she needed to travel beyond Ladysmith. The thought of making the journey alone filled her with anxiety.
Taking the first step
Before setting off, she prayed for guidance and strength.
As she drove, there were moments when her heart raced and doubt crept in. But instead of turning back, she focused on the beautiful scenery around her and reminded herself why she had chosen to take this journey.
Soon, she arrived safely at The Nest.
More than just a getaway
What awaited her was everything she had hoped for and more.
The peaceful surroundings, breathtaking views, excellent accommodation, delicious meals and relaxing teas created the perfect environment to unwind and enjoy a well-deserved break.
But the greatest gift wasn’t the destination itself.
It was the confidence she discovered along the way.
A lesson for us all
Reflecting on her experience, she shared:
“If you put your mind to do something you haven’t done before, you can do it.
There are no mistakes, just challenges and opportunities you learn from.”
Her story is a reminder that courage isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about moving forward despite the fear.
