How do stairlifts work

Our stairlifts have been designed and manufactured to travel on a single rail track. They fit to the stairs and not the wall. This way there is no messy and disruptive structural work. The stairlift can be moved by means of a toggle which is situated on the arm of the chair or can be moved via remote control.
There are three main components to our stairlifts – the motor, battery and gear. The stairlift plugs into the mains which automatically charges the battery. Should there be a power interruption, the stairlift would then operate as usual using the remainder of the battery power.
Acorn’s unique and revolutionary Fastrack system means even the most complex stairlift configurations can be fitted on site by our skilled engineers in a matter of hours. There is no need to wait weeks for a customised rail.
Once your stairlift is installed. our installer will put it through a thorough testing procedure, designed to make sure everything is working just as it should be. Every component is checked and double checked for optimum performance. Only then will our installer guide you step by step through the operation of your new Acorn Stairlift, designed for simplicity and ease of use.
Our stairlifts are designed for straight, curved and outdoor staircases. In cases where the rail poses as an obstruction at the bottom of the staircase, a hinged rail is available in order to maximise space and eliminate a potential tripping hazard.
Stairlift safety is of our utmost concern. Rest assured that our stairlifts are designed and fitted with all necessary mechanical and electrical safeties as required by law.
