Grand Gifts 2018

‘Tis the season for giving!

2018 is the 7th year of Grand Gifts, and we eagerly embark on another period of raising funds and collecting gifts for Grand Gifts.

We have been involved in the Grandparent Giftathon project, fondly known as Grand Gifts, since it was originally founded in 2012 by Caroline De Gruchy. This project provides end-of-year gifts to senior citizens living off the state pension of R1 690 per month. Caroline passed away in January 2016 and it was her wish that Grand Gifts continue to serve the community she cared for so deeply. Over the last few years, we have seen tremendous growth and serve more and more deserving recipients.

Remembering the good work and the legacy this project has created, we have managed to increase the number of senior citizens we gift every year, starting with 1 000 in 2012, to over 2 500 in 2017. For many of them, this was their only gift of the Festive season.

It is our hope to do even better and bring joy into the lives of even more seniors this year but we need your generosity, support and assistance.

How you can get involved

Monetary donations, provide a gift/s, and/or join in the fun at a Wrap and Pack morning

Should you wish to get involved and make a difference this Festive season – we would greatly appreciate your support in any form. The average cost of a gift is R125.

Monetary donations are welcome as we are able to source and purchase goods directly from wholesalers, at better prices, and therefore able to gift more people.

We do like to keep a record of who makes donations and would appreciate it if you could e-mail us on grandgifts1@gmail.com

Bank details for anyone wishing to make a deposit are:

Name: Grand Gifts
Bank: Capitec
Branch: Tokai
Branch Code: 470010

A team of volunteers will purchase, pack and wrap gifts with the cash donations received. For Section 18(a) donations tax certificates please e-mail us confirmation of your deposit, and we will ensure that this is issued to you.

Alternatively, if you would like to shop for gifts yourself, a list of the goodies to be included in the gift is as follows (all gifts to fit into an ice-cream container (or similar size box)).

Goodies to be included in gift

Toothbrush and Toothpaste
Soap
Facecloth
Small chocolate or packet of sweets
Small packet of biscuits
Packet of tissues or a handkerchief
Unisex pair of socks

Optional extras:

We would need to distribute all gifts by the end of November 2018, so please pledge all gifts and donations by the 26th November to ensure that we can deliver to the various senior’s clubs and homes.

Be part of great initiative, by sharing with all your social groups and clubs and anyone you feel would be interested. We rely on your support and encourage you to reach out and help us surpass our target of 2 500 gifts this year and spread the love and joy even wider!

Please note that this initiative is for seniors clubs and homes in the Western Cape.  YEI did contact other organisations nationally, but to date, have not received a response.
