Adventure Has No Age Limit

It has been an exciting month for several lucky You’ve Earned It (YEI) members! Recently, CapeNature reached out to the YEI community with a unique invitation: they were looking for authentic, energetic, “55+ models” who are also hikers and who belonged to a hiking group.  They were to be featured in an upcoming promotional campaign on the stunning Kogelberg Trail in CapeNature’s Kogelberg Nature Reserve.

For decades, advertising has too often prioritized a very narrow definition of “seniors” and adventure. This collaboration marks a fantastic shift toward genuine representation, proving that the spirit of exploration doesn’t come with an expiration date.

CapeNature, which manages vast, pristine areas of the Western Cape – including World Heritage Sites – wanted to showcase that their trails, rivers, and scenic viewpoints are for everyone. They specifically wanted to capture the joy of active 55-plussers experiencing these landscapes, and who better to represent that lifestyle than YEI members?

Stepping Into the Spotlight

YEI approached two hiking groups, primarily 55-plussers.  These groups responded with overwhelming enthusiasm to the call-out. Several of these members were invited to a professional photoshoot. The goal was simple: to capture real people enjoying the great outdoors, naturally and joyfully.

For the participants, it was more than just being a “model” for a day. It was an opportunity to showcase their vitality, their love for nature, and the fact that the “55+ demographic” is often the most adventurous.

“It was such an empowering experience!” says Monique, a YEI member participant. “To be asked to represent our age group for an organization like CapeNature, and to be outdoors in such a beautiful setting, was a dream come true. It felt like we were making a statement that we are active, we are strong, and we belong on these trails. Who would have thought I would be asked to do a photoshoot at my age – I am very chuffed about that”

The atmosphere on set was described as electric. Members were seen smiling and laughing, navigating the terrain, and interacting authentically with the environment and each other. The shoot emphasized natural interactions rather than forced posing, capturing the pure pleasure of discovery.

Nature Meets Experience

This partnership is a perfect synergy. While CapeNature offers the location, YEI members offer the character. These models didn’t just pose; they lived the experience. Their expressions convey a lifetime of appreciation for the natural world and the joy of exploring the Western Cape’s biodiversity.

“We didn’t want models playing a role; we wanted real people who love these places,” explained a representative from CapeNature. “The YEI members brought an authenticity that we could not have scripted. Their energy was contagious, and they perfectly embody the spirit of mindful, joyous exploration that we want to promote.”

By featuring real, active 55+ members, CapeNature is helping to break old-fashioned stereotypes about what it means to get older. The upcoming campaign will serve as an inspiration, reminding everyone that adventure isn’t just for the young – it’s for the young at heart.

You’ve Earned It is immensely proud of our members who took part and stepped outside their comfort zone to represent our vibrant community.

We cannot wait to see the final campaign! We will be watching closely and will be sure to share the official CapeNature photos across all our YEI platforms just as soon as they are released.

In the meantime, let this be a reminder to all of us to keep exploring, keep discovering, and keep showing the world that adventure only gets better with age.
