#Support Pensioners.
As part of YEI’s 10th birthday celebrations, YEI has launched this new initiative to assist pensioners.
Pensioners can register their small home-run businesses
at no cost in YEI’s Directory
South African pensioners are battling. Many are in a dire financial state. 6-8% of South Africans are able to retire with sufficient savings.
On the flip side, South Africans are notoriously resourceful and SA pensioners are no different. Those that do not have enough savings to retire are using their immense experience, skills and knowledge to venture into small home-run businesses in order to supplement their income.
You’ve Earned It/YEI has launched a free listing platform specifically for pensioners who have home-run businesses. Whether you are a handyman, making marmalade, house-sitting or looking after pets, YEI will showcase your home-run business in our new initiative especially for pensioners.
YEI aims to connect pensioner home-run businesses to individuals requiring their services. #Supportpensioners will regularly be marketed across its platform (website, newsletters and Facebook page).
Registration on the #SupportPensioners page is free and as simple as completing a short form. YEI plans to research and write stories about the pensioners behind the home-run businesses which will hopefully motivate individuals to support those hard-working pensioners.
“I would like to encourage individuals in the local communities to support pensioners where they can – pensioners who are struggling to survive now and beyond these difficult times that we are going through. Pensioners who are making every effort to work later in life in order to supplement their meagre income” said Marilyn Hallett, Director at YEI.
Younger people and local communities can support pensioners by encouraging their 60-plus family members and friends to list on this site.

Hi I’m Shahieda. I’m very sad cos I heard government won’t pay me cos my husband earns enough. I worked at Grootte Schuur Hospital 33 years ago. I’m on my own. Why can’t they grant me pension. Please let me know what the real story is. Thank you.
Dear Shahieda
Unfortunately, You’ve Earned It is not able to assist you. Our recommendation is that you get back to SASSA to ask them the question. It sounds like you are not eligible for a SASSA pension as your husband earns over the threshold, but you need to find out directly from SASSA.
sorry we can’t help you.
