On the 19 March 2026, something special happened.
Eighteen YEI members gathered online for the very first YEI Hub virtual meet-up. What started as a simple idea turned into something far more meaningful. Real conversations. Genuine laughter. Instant connection.
From Cape Town to Pretoria to KwaZulu-Natal, faces lit up screens as stories were shared and new friendships began to form. There was warmth, openness, and a powerful reminder that life after 55 is not slowing down. It is expanding.
One member shared: After losing so many friends during COVID, having this community has meant the world.
That is what the YEI Hub is all about. Real connection. Real people. A sense of belonging, wherever you are in South Africa or beyond.
From Screen to Real Life
The impact did not stop when the call ended.
One of our members joined the YEI Hub Southern Suburbs group straight after the online meet-up. Just two days later, she attended her first in-person gathering.

Why It Matters
Sometimes, the hardest part is simply showing up.
Meeting online first can make it easier. Names became familiar. Faces became friendly. The step into an in-person gathering no longer felt daunting, it felt natural.
And importantly, these online meet-ups are not here to replace our in-person gatherings. Those remain incredibly important. They are where deeper friendships are built and shared experiences come to life.
What the virtual meet-ups do is something different. They bring us together as one community. A national, and even international, group of 55-plussers connecting across cities, provinces and borders.
This is how community grows. One conversation at a time.
