The legendary actor, Kirk Douglas has died aged 103.

Best-known for his film, Spartacus, Kirk Douglas rose to fame during Hollywood’s “golden age”, and earned his first Oscar nomination for the film Champion, a 1949 boxing story.  In 1996, Kirk Douglas won an Honorary Award in recognition of his 50 years in the industry.  Kirk Douglas was one of the last Hollywood legends of the golden era.

He was the father of Michael Douglas, another well-known Oscar-winning actor.  Douglas said “”It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today. “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies… but to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad. Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true.  Dad – I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.”

After the news of his death broke, fans gathered at his star set in the ground on the Hollywood walk of fame.
