    Hello YE
For many years, we always received our SASSA pensions like clockwork, on the 1st of every month.
From near the beginning of the COVID lockdown, it was suddenly changed to the 3rd!
I had to change my debit orders with my bank as I could no longer cover them on the 1st and I was borrowing money to buy prepaid electricity for the last few days of the month to get to the 3rd.
Now I see on the listing of the new dates, they are all late, and, some pension payments are ctually only on the 6th of the month! Almost a week into the month! Utility bills will be a real struggle those months!
These late oayments are making life very hard and we also miss all the end of month specials in the grocery stores too.
Is there no one who can speak up for the pensioners to get our monthly pension payout back to the 1st of every month as it was originally! It would he a lifesaver for me.

    Thank you

      Hi Felicity.
We do have a SASSA contact and can bring this up with her. Can’t promise anything though. But it’s worth a try.

    Hi
For many years, we always received our SASSA child grant like clockwork, on the 1st of every month.
From near the beginning of the COVID lockdown, it was suddenly changed to the 3rd!
It had jumped 2 twice 5th and now to the 7th??
Now I see on the listing of the new dates, they are all late, and, some grant payments are actually only on the 6th of the month! Almost a week into the month!
These late payments are making life very hard and we also miss all the end of month specials in the grocery stores too.
Is there no one who can speak up for the child grant/pensioners to get our monthly pension/grant payout back to the 1st of every month as it was originally! It would be a lifesaver for all

    Thank you
    Ms Henna Vos

      Dear Henna

SASSA Information – re SASSA payment dates

Marilyn Hallett at You’ve Earned It – Savings. Benefits. Over 60’s / YEI contacted an Executive at SASSA regarding the current SASSA payment dates. YEI has received much correspondence from pensioners advising that the current payment dates are a source of struggle and hardship for many pensioners who have to meet debit orders and payments.

We have received the following response:

Unfortunately, it is not possible to revert the payment dates for grants for older persons to the 1st of every month. The payment dates are set after consultation with National Treasury and have to take into account the cash flow for the country. In addition the dates take into account the fact that we prefer that our older persons are not at merchants or banks at the end of or on the first of the month, as this increases the numbers of people, as the salaried people are then doing shopping, The need to stagger the numbers, and try to reduce queues everywhere is really important – for the protection of our older persons, especially now in the time of COVID.

The payment dates are therefore scheduled so that grants for older persons are paid on the 3rd of each month, or the first working day after the 3rd, where the 3rd falls on a weekend, public holiday or Monday. The only exception to this is in December, when we do start paying on 1 December. This earlier payment is done, to ensure that all payments, even those done at our cash pay points, are completed by 16 December, so that we do not have staff in the field in the week before Christmas. This is a particularly high risk period and we do not want our beneficiaries still waiting for funds at this time.

I do hope that this clarifies the position

      Kind regards
      YEI
