Mrs Ruth Hazel Katz is a Registered Social Worker with over 34 years of experience in private practice. Based in Sydenham, Johannesburg, she provides practical, compassionate mental health support to adults, families, communities, companies, and older adults.
Ruth works with anger management, mood disorders, stress and burnout, parenting challenges, codependency, and relationship difficulties. She also offers advocacy, psychoeducation, psychiatric social work services, and access to trusted information and resources. She is well known for her strong mental health advocacy and consumer activism.

Ruth’s work with older adults and caregivers is deeply personal. After supporting her own father through stroke recovery, she was invited to serve as a Voluntary Counsellor with the Stroke Aid Society, working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside occupational, physiotherapy, and speech therapy professionals.
She facilitated support groups for partners of stroke survivors, helping them navigate the emotional and practical challenges of being both partner and caregiver. Initiating stroke counselling services for residents of Alexandra Township remains one of the highlights of her career.
