Eight Bells Mountain Inn

Eight Bells Mountain Inn is a proudly South African-owned and family-run resort hotel set in a picturesque mountain landscape at the foot of the Robinson Pass in the Outeniqua Mountains outside of Mossel Bay.

Eight Bells was established more than 90 years ago, with strong ties to our history and traditions. Today, our aim is to blend our traditions and unique old-world charm with modern comforts and four-star amenities and service. Eight Bells exudes nostalgia and comfort and is a “home away from home” for many, offering a serene place to relax and unwind.

We are a full-service four-star hotel set on a beautiful 160-hectare estate with an on-site restaurant as well as a variety of amenities and outdoor recreation facilities. We have 25 rooms – ranging from standard en-suite rooms and family units to log cabin-style chalets and thatched rondavels. All rooms are immersed within our lush and colourful gardens, which provides a relaxing countryside oasis.

As a family-run hotel, our staff members are very important to us! All from the local community of Ruiterbos, many staff members are multi-generational and have more than 30 years of service at the hotel. In many ways, they are our largest asset – their knowledge and experience is incomparable and they always provide outstanding service and authentic country hospitality.

For those who seek movement and activity during their stay, we have a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities, such as hiking, horseback riding, swimming, squash, lawn bowls, and tennis. Alternatively, for those who want to unwind and relax, we have many comfortable facilities to do so in – like our elegant lounge equipped with a library and fireplace, our old-world style pub and historic billiard room, or the lush and whimsical Tea Garden.
