Why pensioners are increasingly important to SA’s economy
Pensioners are becoming increasingly important in the South African economy,
Mike Schüssler, chief economist at Economists.co.za, told Fin24 last Wednesday.
You’ve Earned It has been saying this for quite some time now. Now economists are in agreement that SA retailers should try to tap into the spending power of the growing number of pensioners by creating special pensioner days or pensioner discounts. Pensioners account for about 10% of SA’s gross domestic product (GDP), thus playing a very important role in the SA economy. In total, SA’s pension assets are about the 8th largest in the world.

SASSA Warns of Fake Internship Advert
Please warn your children/grandchildren about this fake internship advertisment.
The South African Social Security Agency notes with concern that an advertisement inviting unemployed youth to apply for SASSA internships is circulating on social media. Upon applying for the internship, applicants are then requested to deposit R500 in order to secure the internship. Members of the public are urged to ignore this bogus advert as it is a scam and could put potential applicants at risk.
SASSA strongly condemns this and would like to place it on record that this advert is in no way linked to it.
Furthermore, due to the high number of job scams that have plagued SASSA in the past, the Agency has resolved to only advertise vacancies in newspapers and on the SASSA website.
“The public is advised to be wary and vigilant of any job recruiters who ask for money in order to secure a job post. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is not true. Also be suspicious if a recruiter asks you to click on links because this can lead to identity theft”: said Abraham Mahlangu Acting CEO
If ever in doubt, members of the public are advised to contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11
or enquire at their respective regional SASSA offices in order to verify information.

Rave review from YEI member for Bidvest Car Rental
Looking for car rental for your next holiday or mini break? Take a look at this rave review for Bidvest Car Rental who has your best interests at heart – a very special rate for all seniors. Bidvest Car Rental living up to their mantra of ensuring you have peace of mind when travelling.
I’ve used the Bidvest website on many occasions to book car rental and I always get the pensioners rate. Their website is easy and user friendly. You can initiate a booking and get the results/quote thereby getting the cost without having to commit to an actual booking. I really find Bidvest to be as good if not better than their competitors and their counter staff at the collection and drop off points are always so helpful and efficient. Thank you Bidvest for this offer to pensioners, it really makes my breakaways so much more affordable. And thanks to YEI for all you do in securing pensioners’ discounts.
