Life Change

Last week, we celebrated the 94th birthday of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, South Africa’s living icon and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Post-International Mandela Day, you may be feeling the need to get involved in a good cause that uplifts your community. We highlight good causes on our “Associations” page - non-profit organizations who assist those in need in many different ways as well as wonderful senior organizations who are advocating for powerful positive change.

We are brimming over with good stuff in this issue. Competitions and ticket give-aways abound! Take a look at the Shoprite/Checkers Pretty Things for Little Things promotion. Use your creative talents to make something for needy children, and stand a chance to win wonderful prizes. Click here for full details.

Be a winner with YEI – a fabulous prize of a 2-night stay at the Tsitsikamma Village Inn is up for grabs! Check out the ticket give-aways for Theatre on the Bay, the Barnyard Theatre and the Decorex Expo. Primi are offering some
delicious winter specials, and if the offer of free bacon and eggs sounds good, read all about it in the YEI News column, and while you’re there, do take a look at our new advertisers.

It’s time to enjoy the thrills and spills of the Olympic Games. We wish Team SA the best of luck. YEI would particularly like to wish Capetonian Archer Karen Hultzer all the best. Karen Hultzer might be the oldest athlete in Team SA, but she is an inspiring person who, through sheer grit and determination, is representing her country at the London Olympics at the age of 46. Good luck, Karen. We’re all behind you.

We invite you to comment, debate and give us your view, as you take a read of our controversial, nostalgic, informative and tongue-in-cheek articles – find out what the indomitable Bruce Fordyce is up to these days, join in the debate on the draconian measures for smokers and have your say on the issue of long-distance parenting. The more comments we have and the more feedback you give us, the better we are able to deliver that you want. Do come and join in the fun on our Facebook page as well.

We also have our regular feature, with Nedbank talking about how they can take your savings on a journey. And Auto and General give us all the low-down on their product – Young @ Heart.

We do take adverse comments on the chin, but there’s nothing like getting a “feel good” email from a reader. Take a look at “Readers Posts” – this particular email put a smile on our face all day!

Remember, tell your friends, family and your local businesses about the FREE company listing option on YEI. Lets build YEI together, because...

Until next time...

Kind regards,
Marilyn and the YEI Team
