Pick n Pay smart shopper loyalty programme

Pick n pay smart shopper card

Benefits and rewards

  • smart shopper is a points based loyalty scheme which allows smart shoppers to earn points on almost all their purchases. Accumulated points can then be converted into cash back on their smart shopper card which can be spent at any Pick n Pay store, Pick n Pay Online Shopping or donated to a charity via the smart shopper in-store kiosk. Customers can earn bonus points through points promotions and targeted vouchers available at the in-store kiosk.
  • The smart shopper programme is available to everyone, and our innovative in-store smart shopper kiosks have been installed to counter the often inefficient and expensive postal delivery system in South Africa. The kiosks also allow smart shoppers to convert their points at their convenience, rather than having to wait for vouchers in the post.

Administrative/monthly fees

  • No charges or fees – smart shopper is Pick n Pay’s way of thanking its customers for choosing to shop at Pick n Pay.

Donation to schools/charities

  • smart shoppers can donate all or a portion of their points to any of the charities pre-loaded on the in-store kiosk.  This gives our customers the opportunity to give back in their own way.
  • We are currently piloting 50 Western Cape schools in the new smart schools programme which allows a school to earn, redeem and switch points and also allows a family to donate their points to a school within the club.

Points

  • All smart shoppers earn base points at 1 point for every 1 Rand spent
  • Points can be boosted through point promotions and targeted offers, i.e.
    –   Purchasing items that offer additional points e.g. double, triple and bonus points
    –  Visiting the in-store kiosk for personalised money off or extra points vouchers
  • 1 smart point is worth 1 cent. Therefore, 100 points = R1 cash back. There is a minimum value of 1,000 points before points can be switched.
  • It may take up to 24 hours after a purchase for the smart shopper points to reflect in a customer’s account and once the points are available, a customer can convert their points or donate to a charity whenever it is suitable for them. We will be launching additional benefits later in the year.

Restrictions/exclusions in terms of how one can earn points

  • The only items which are excluded from earning smart shopper points are those excluded by law, i.e. Pharmacy Dispensed Products, Pharmacy Prescription and Scheduled (S1 and S2), Medicines, Cigarettes, Tobacco and Cigars or Any Products that contain Tobacco,  Cellular Insurance, 3rd Party Services, Government Bags, Empties, Fuel, Baby Formula

Expiry of points

  • smart shopper points do not expire, however a smart shopper card will be de-activated if it is not used for two years, and any points linked to that card will be lost. If there is a cash balance on the smart shopper card, it will be lost after three years of inactivity.

Partner companies/vendors

  • On top of the everyday points earning opportunities for smart shoppers in stores, there are other ways for them to boost their points through Partners promotions, i.e.
    –    Discovery Healthyfood benefit:  if a customer is a smart shopper and a Discovery Vitality member with a Discovery credit card, they can earn up to 10x points back from Discovery by activating this benefit with Discovery
    –   Absa Rewards:  Absa Rewards members can convert their Absa Rewards Cash balance into smart shopper points and get a 5% boost in the value of the points exchanged

Maximize your benefit

  • It is important that the customer swipes their smart shopper card each and every time they shop at Pick n Pay, or enter their card number when they use the Pick n Pay Online Shopping service.
  • Customers are encouraged to check the in-store kiosk regularly for targeted vouchers which may offer either bonus points or cash off on selected items.
  • Customers should also look out for the double, triple and bonus point offers on selected products on the shelf in Pick n Pay stores.

Further information

  • We have some very exciting developments on the way which will be revealed later this year.

    Hi
I have two smart shopper cards. One my husband keeps to use. However while on holiday in December he tried to use it but it was “invalid”. Why would this be? We were therefor not able to earn points from our Pick Pay purchases. Please advise.
    Thank you
