Need to work post-retirement? Eight ideas for enterprising retirees

Posted By Marilynh / November 6, 2019 / 12 Comments

Whether you have to work,
want to supplement your income,
need to be active in retirement
and/or would like to follow a passion or interest,
here are eight further ideas to consider based on
your interests, your preference, your skills set
or your background.

As a follow-up to a recent YEI article,
Five work-from-home opportunities for SA pensioners,
let’s take a look at some more opportunities that you could consider:

How about using your expertise, skills, experience and your network to full advantage by working for companies in your sphere of interest?

Consider passing your skill on to others.  If you have a passion, interest or hobby, considering passing your skills on to those who are interested to learn.  Retired teachers can offer extra lessons to students who are either preparing for exams or trying to bring up their grades.  Maybe you have a love of sport and enjoy the idea of coaching a new generation of budding sport stars?

TEFL teacher

A field that is becoming increasingly popular.  You can teach overseas while combining work with travel.  Or you can do TEFL work from your computer – meeting people from other cultures online while helping them to achieve proficiency in the English language.

Small businesses and individuals are always on the look out for proficient accountants and bookkeepers.  If this is your field of expertise, then this could be just the part-time job for you.

Sales Representative

If you can sell ice to an eskimo, or even if you just like chatting, then a role such as this could be up your street.  Good communication skills and patience are essentials for this work, as well as basic computer skills.  Businesses are always on the lookout for sales representatives.

Virtual Assistant

Were you an amazing administrator in your time?  Were you organized, detail-oriented and good at meeting deadlines?  If you have kept up with technology (or are willing to learn), then you can turn your special skills into a part-time opportunity.

A Greeter

Greeters are typically found in supermarkets overseas.  Why not contact your local supermarket and suggest your services as a Greeter.  You never know!  Someone might just take you up on this! A Greeter will welcome shoppers with a friendly hello as they enter the store, answer questions, assist people with parcels, keep an eye open for shoplifters.

A reliable, non rip-off, knowledgeable handyperson is every woman’s dream!  Helping people with a smorgasbord of odd jobs from tightening hinges, woodwork, plumbing, painting,  you name it, is reward in itself.  Every household has jobs to be done, and generally the owners just don’t have the time, the inclination or the knowledge to do “everyday” jobs.

How can we get other pensioners involved in the Mannatech network. Super motivating and extraordinary health products. Rated the second best network in the world. Depending on the effort you put in you can start creating great passive income.

I have been doing translation, editing and transcribing for the past 15 years and can honestly say that I am free of worrying about money matters and spend my time travelling. I have also been offering a Distance Transcription Course for the past five years. All committed participants in the course have received work opportunities after completion of this month long course. I offer a discounted rate to over 60s.
