Finding Passion, Purpose and a Pay Cheque post-50

Working longer may be the best insurance policy for your future.
The Refirement Network has designed an online course which will give you clear goals and ideas on how to design and grow your future work model.

Refirement Network 1

Working beyond your professional career is now a possibility and in many cases a financial need. The challenge is that the world of work has changed. Ageism exists in the workplace and we need to design a new vision and understanding of what we need to do to thrive.

We are living in an ever-changing world. The convergence of longevity and technology is changing the way we need to look at the current world we inhabit. It certainly looks very different from that of our parents and grandparents.

Many of us may not have saved enough during our working years and are looking for ways to keep earning when we retire. The world of work has changed, and this can play in our favour as we start to plan and build our lives 50+.

At the Refirement Network, our main aim is to keep our eye on the horizon around changes and how we can engage and educate the 50+ market to ensure that this season becomes one filled with gifts and legacy rather than too much sadness, feelings of depression, loneliness and regret.

We have started to run online courses to facilitate discussion and thinking around where we may find work and entrepreneurial ventures. The online process is done via a platform called ZOOM. One can access this from either your computer or your Smart Phone. During the session, we are all live on the screen and can discuss ideas, content and learn together. The beauty is that one can do it from anywhere and not have to be in a room with other delegates. This is one of the ways that technology has helped us to start learning and communicating differently.

The course runs for 4 sessions of one hour each, at 18h00 every Wednesday, starting on the 7th February (7th, 14th, 21st and 28th February).   Each session is recorded and available in case you want to watch again or may have missed the session. Each delegate is also added to a closed, secret Facebook Group where discussion happens during the week between modules. This is a wonderful way to continue sharing and engaging while learning. The objective of the course is to share a framework of how the world of work has changed, discovering your own passion and purpose, understanding, communication and how to build your business and ideas that can work for this generation. It is more about finding your very own unique space for this season. It will be different for each of you. We arrive at this point in life with skills, experience, knowledge and networks. We may have worked for one employer for 35 years or had a varied career in and out of different industries. The aim is to leave you with your own framework to work on for your future.

The beauty of working longer is that we may then not need to draw down too early on our investments and can allow them to continue growing. This can alleviate a lot of stress that many may feel around longevity and the amount of money saved. The challenge is that this responsibility rests with us as individuals, and change will only happen if we keep learning, growing and understanding the new world around us. One of the greatest benefits of the internet is that instead of only having a local market, one can now look at the possibility of a global market, all run from the comfort of your home. It is of course dependent on what it is that you want to do and where your skills and passion lie.

Here is one statement from a happy customer in 2017:

Lynda Smith is a personal coach specializing in innovative ways to refire careers 50+. Her online course comes highly recommended. She expertly guides through topics such as the new economy, digital literacy, and ways to generate money streams.  She encourages participants to ponder on purpose – all of this supported by great links to watch and listen to by experts in their field of expertise. I loved her course and can encourage anyone who feels ready for transition to take part.
