Merwenstein is situated in the panoramic Breede River Valley, close to Bonnievale, 40 km from Robertson, Montagu and Swellendam and only 200 km from Cape Town. Make our home your base to explore the area.
At Merwenstein, we like to make people feel at home, and also give you an insider view on fruit farming in South Africa. Hugo is a passionate fruit farmer who cultivates pomegranates, Sharon fruit, plums, peaches, apricots and grapes. The Merwespont wine cellar, now part of the Bonnievale wine cellar, is on the farm, and on request, visitors can also visit the wine cellar.
We have three luxurious and spacious double rooms with big beds, en suite showers and private entrances into the garden.
Guests may go on farm walks, join the family for dinner, help Heidi in the kitchen or just relax in the panorama room with its lovely Breede River views. Many evenings are spent by learning to play new card games. Some guests even volunteer at the Bonnie People Project where Heidi tries to make a difference in some childrens’ lives.
On the farm, over 80 different bird species have been counted.
We offer YEI members the following: a 50 % discount to the second person sharing the same room for a minimum stay of two nights.
If you are a YEI single person, we offer a stay of three nights and pay only for two nights.
Please use YEI as your reference when making an enquiry or booking.
We look forward to meeting with you!
And if you are German-speaking, Heidi also speaks German.
