Hi, a pensioner friend, Ms M. Fagan, who is in her eighties and stays in a retirement village has received letters regarding bonus declaration and we have no idea what it is all about. Could someone please enlighten us. Many thanks.

      Good day Mr Tyrrell,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

As a mutual assurance society, AVBOB does not have external shareholders, only policyholders, who benefit directly from our financial successes. We can therefore share surplus profits with our policyholders in the form of special bonuses and free funeral benefits. In fact, over the past nine years, AVBOB has declared and shared R6,5 billion in special bonuses and free funeral benefits.

It is important to note that a special bonus does not form part of the guaranteed policy value, and is only payable on the death of the insured person. To ensure that she receives accurate information, we would like to ask a consultant to visit Ms Fagan to explain in detail the special bonuses and policyholder benefits.

Kindly provide us with the information below so we can assist her:
      • Ms. Fagan’s policy details:
      • The name and physical address of the retirement village:
      • Her home or mobile telephone number:

      Kind regards,
