Greetings

Every which way you turn, there is bad news and disaster - possible exorbitant electricity tariff hikes, a demise in the world of South African aviation, the Cape in chaos, a devastating wildfire in St Francis Bay and much, much more. Although we discuss two “bad news” stories, we then shift gear to fun and good news stories – after all, we are rapidly heading into the season of good cheer.

YEI finds out how two organizations are helping seniors in need this Christmas. We look at silver surfers and their relationship to social media, and then highlight how you could end the year on a high note by possibly winning one of the lovely prizes on offer in our exciting competitions.

In the month of World Diabetes Day, the one and only German-qualified Orthopaedic Shoe Technician in South Africa gives us valuable tips in the article “Diabetes and the Shoe”.

Please read the YEI News section as we highlight how you can maximize your usage of the YEI website and electronic directory to your benefit.

We would like to highlight our Readers Posts section, as some of our members are posting some interesting information there. Read about Carols by Candlelight at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, Symphony in the City in Pietermaritzburg – there is even an advertisement for a nursing position. With comments, debates and queries – there is something for everyone in your space!

Our regular Nedbank column speaks to travelling light, the prepaid way, and shares some interesting travel tips, including one that only they know about!

Nedbank MoneyTrader gives you the opportunity to invest for a rainy day, and you decide when it’s raining!

Please spread the YEI word to your friends, family and your local businesses. Do tell them about the FREE company listing option on YEI. Lets build YEI together, because… YOU’VE EARNED IT!

Until next time…

Kind regards,
Marilyn and the YEI Team

With just over four weeks to Christmas, YEI features two organizations, based in the Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal, who are bringing, or have brought, Christmas cheer to seniors in need. Want to get involved?

Never ever assume that silver surfers are technologically disconnected. This is just not so, although we have previously had some interesting debate on YEI about the pros and cons of Facebook.

With the country reeling from events of the last few months, the farmworkers strike in the Western Cape has left people believing that the Western Cape is on the brink of anarchy.

How will an average increase of 16% per year for electricity tariffs until 2018 affect your pocket? Do you see this as a necessary increase or daylight robbery?

November 17 was World Diabetes Day. With this theme in mind, YEI had the privilege of chatting to Micha Oelsner, the only Orthopaedic Shoe Technician in South Africa with a German qualification.

Coping with retrenchment is easy in theory. However, when the emotional reality hits you it can knock the stuffing out of you.

Get into the spirit of the festive season by entering this fun competition where the winner and partner get to go on a mystery venue tour. Highly recommended by YEI - who went with Traveltime on their mystery venue tour in 2011!

Madcap comedian Alan Committie returns in a BRAND NEW hilarious One Man comedy tour de force! If you want an ideal way to end your year on a good laugh then come and see NO, SERIOUSLY!
