SASSA paydays normalise from January after December early payment

SASSA clarifies the payment dates and methods
to social grant beneficiaries for 2018

SASSA card

Social grants are usually paid from the first of every month except in December. As from January 2018 SASSA will pay beneficiaries who use banks, ATM’s and merchant outlets from the 01 January despite the day falling on a public holiday. As usual, this applies to any other public holiday falling on a the first day of the month.

Payment at SASSA paypoints will start on the 04 January all over the country except the Western Cape which will open its paypoints from the 03 January 2018. Specific and individualized payment dates are printed on payment slips for beneficiaries using SASSA paypoints to ensure that SASSA pays the right grant to the right person at the right time and place.

The early December payment which started on 28 November was welcomed by SASSA beneficiaries with both hands. The rationale behind was to protect beneficiaries from the December shopping traffic and its attendant risks especially for the elderly. The move however is misinterpreted as a December double payment by a few and others think another early payment for January is on the cards- which is not true.

Social grant beneficiaries are also reminded that upon approval of their grants they have the right to choose a payment method. They can either choose a direct payment into a bank account of their choice or a manual cash payment at a paypoint for instance. A beneficiary choosing a direct payment into their bank account makes it easy and convenient because they can receive their money anywhere in the country. Beneficiaries who wish to switch to banks can arrange that at their nearest SASSA office. SASSA however does not cover bank charges that may arise in the case of direct payments into private bank accounts of beneficiaries.

Will the 12/17 card fall away alltogether or will there be renewal cards to apply for once again. How would this work and where and when should one go to receive 12/18 SASSA bank cards. Thank you kindly

I have enquired about this on behalf of someone else and informed by SASSA to ignore the 12/17 expiry date on the cards. Information pertaining to the renewal of cards will be published widely when this is about to happen.

How do I contact you telephonically if noone answers the phone. I have tried for days to complain that I am not getting my full Sassa amount of 1600.00 each month. Every month it is a different amount. Usually between 19.00 and 20.00 less than what I should be getting.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

    Yours faithfully

These are the fees charged by the banks whose ATMs you use. Really disappointing that they rip the pensioners off with such high fees. To avoid this draw the funds from Pick N Pay or Shoprite outlets. I’ve been told that some banks in the Cape do not charge fees on withdrawals but have not been able to verify this.

Wat is die bedrag wat aan persone ouer as 75jr betaal moet word. Lyk of daar aftrekkings af getrek word? Wat staan die persoon te doen om dit te rapporteer of navraag te doen.

Someone over 75 yrs receives R1620 for the tax year ending 2017. See previous reply regarding withdrawal fees. If you are withdrawing funds at retail outlets such as Pick N Pay or Shoprite and still receive less than R1620 during the 2017 financial year then enquire at SASSA about this as there are a host of con artists ripping pensioners off. They will inform you where the deductions are coming from.
